Confirmation Program

Confirmation

Confirmation celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit. In the Acts of the Apostles chapter 2, verses 1 to 13, we read of the Apostles receiving the Holy Spirit. They had been hiding after Jesus’ death, afraid and uncertain. The coming of the Holy Spirit with his gifts inspired them and enabled them to take the step of preaching the good news.

We are made members of God’s family at Baptism. At Confirmation, our Baptism is completed or “sealed” by the Holy Spirit and we are called to be Christian witnesses, just like the apostles. The whole of our Christian living and the life of the Church, too, are sustained by the same Spirit.

Who Can Receive?

Any baptized Catholic wishing to advance on the path of developing their faith. Candidates for Confirmation must be at least 16 years of age and at least high school juniors at the time they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.  A two-year catechesis of preparation is required and should integrate elements of Bible study, community, liturgy and service.

Sponsor

The sponsor for the candidate is to act as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfill the obligation inherent in this sacrament.  The Church recommends that the sponsor for confirmation be the same sponsor that the candidate had at baptism.

A sponsor must be a confirmed Catholic, who has already received the sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist; at least 16 years of age and have the intention of carrying out the duties of a godparent.  It is desirable that the one who undertook the role of sponsor at baptism be the sponsor for confirmation. Parents may not be sponsors for their children, but may present them for the sacrament.

Dear Parents and Teens!

We look forward to continuing the faith formation of the many wonderful teens in our parish family!  In addition to classes, 20 service hours are mandatory each year.  Participation in our Youth Group, while not mandatory is expected.  Second-year students must write their Letter of Intent to Fr. Rayanna and complete a Saint Name project. A retreat is a requirement, and no student will receive the Sacrament without attending a retreat.
